McBryde family papers, 1856-1940 (bulk 1882-1920) [manuscript].

Papers, chiefly correspondence 1882-1920, of John McLaren McBryde (1841-1923), agricultural scientist, and his son, J. M. McBryde, Jr. (1870-1956), English professor. Papers relate to the father's teaching at the University of Tennessee, his presidency of South Carolina College, and his work at Virginia Polytechnic Institute; and to the son's career at Sweet Briar College and the University of the South, where he edited the "Sewanee Review," 1909-1919. Papers after 1919, while McBryde, Jr., was at Tulane University, relate chiefly to aspects of his father's career. Volumes include McBryde, Sr.'s diary as a schoolboy in Abbeville, S.C., 1856, and his journals documenting his farming near Charlottesville, Va., 1868-1869.
